“Star Wars” Surpasses “Beauty And The Beast” As Top Earner


Crosses $1 Billion Mark

Star Wars: The Last Jedi dramatically surpassed Beauty And The Beast, to emerge Hollywood’s  top grossing movie of the year 2017. It also topped the charts for the weekend for the third time, beating Dwayne Johnson’s “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” barely.

According to studio estimates on on the last day of 2017, the disney movie will add $52.4m (£38.6m) over the weekend bringing its domestic total to $517.1m. “Beauty and the Beast,” also a Disney release, netted out with $504m for the year.

“The Last Jedi” has crossed the $1bn mark globally, even before it’s China opening on January 5.
