Revealed: Obasanjo Made George Weah President

President Olusegun Obasanjo played a major role in the emergence of George Weah as the President of Liberia according to Segun Adegbami. Segun, an ex international said President Obasanjo invited Sirleaf Johnson and Weah to Nigeria during the last presidential election. He told Weah to suspend his ambition of becoming president, albeit temporarily, so that he could go back to school.

“The Nigerian leader told him that if he (Weah) heeded his advice he would personally ensure he becomes the next President of Liberia. Weah indeed, listened to Obasanjo, took his advice and went back to America to read”. However, years later, OBJ has fulfilled his promised.

George Weah is a former Liberian International footballer. He is the only African player to have won the FIFA World’s Best Player Of The Year. He was elected President after a November 7 run off election. He made previous unsuccessful attempts in 2005 and 2011.
