Udom’s Gov’t Most Insensitive
The Akwa Ibom State Government is set to commence the construction of a central worship center in Uyo, the state capital. The foundation laying ceremony of the 8,500 capacity international worship centre is set to hold on Sunday, January 21 2018. It will be conducted by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
Giving an insight on funding for the edifice, Mr Emmanuel claimed “We have found favour in the eyes of the Lord, and it’s instructive to note that Religious bodies, non-profit organizations and even individuals from all over the world heeded our call for support to actualize this dream”.
However, there is widespread dissatisfaction as regards the perceived white elephant project. Akwa Ibomites believe a Church auditorium at a time when the state has been ranked as having an alarming unemployment is insensitivity at its peak.
Meanwhile, natives of the state continue to rue their helplessness. This is due to the past decision of the State Government to go ahead with the construction of an Akwa Ibom House in Lagos, in spite of massive protests.
What is your take? Do you think this is a necessary development?
