NPFL 2018: Akwa United Resumes training (video), Set To Unveil New Signings

Akwa United Football Club of Uyo has officially resumed, in preparations for the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League season. The Two time Federations Cup champions reported to their Uyo House yesterday, January 2, 2018.

However, about 36 players took part in today’s morning training session at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo. The session which lasted about 2 hours featured the 2017 Aiteo Cup MVP, Olorunleke Ojo, Christian Pyagbara, Ubong Friday and other outstanding stars of the 2017 season. This suggests that the Promise Keepers has not offloaded any major player so far, recently.

Meanwhile, the gaffer, Abdu Maikaba used this opportunity to test his new imports. Jainda.com observed the intensity of the session, as everyone did his best to impress the Coach.

Team Set For Thanksgiving

In a related development, the Management of the team have concluded plans for a Thanksgiving and Dedication service this weekend.

According to the Chairman of the Club Elder Paul Bassey, “the service is our way of showing appreciation to God for the success of last season and to also dedicate the new season to God in prayer”

” God was with us last season, we finished 4th in the league for the first time in our history and also won the Aiteo Cup. These are what we couldn’t have achieve on our own, but God made it possible for us. So it is necessary for us to thank God for what he has done and also to hand over the 2018 season to Him in prayer”.

The Thanksgiving and Dedication Service will take place at the Apostolic Church Ukana Onuk, Essien Udim Local Government Area on Sunday January 7th, 2018.

The Media Officer, Mfon Patrick in his reaction has expressed optimism towards the 2018 season. He has assured  of the teams readiness for the season, scheduled to commence on Sunday, January 14.

The Promise Keepers will compete for three major trophies this season. Aside the NPFL, they will represent Nigeria at the CAF Confederations Cup. They will also aim to set another record of winning the Aiteo Cup back to back.
