Indications have started surfacing as to why Governor Udom sacked the erstwhile Commissioner For Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Udo Ekpeyong. According to our source, the decision to lay him off is saturation of excesses. These include first of all, the imposition of officers for a just elected Local Government Chairman, in the name of the First Lady.
Also, Ekpeyong’s sack could not be unconnected to the events of the Ukanafun stakeholders meeting yesterday organized by the senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio as part of his activities to keep in touch with his constituents.
According to our source, the senate Minority Leader was calling stakeholders from Ukanafun in attendance to stand up for recognition.
However, the sacked Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs refused to stand up or answer his name when Senator Akpabio called him.
It took the intervention of Gov Udom Emmanuel who was also in attendance to call the sacked Commissioner to order. The Commissioner who stood up sluggishly said he was sick as such needed not to be disturbed.
Governor Udom stormed out of the meeting as a result of this incidence. A visibly unhappy Akpabio recommended his sack.
Reliable information indicates that several efforts by the Executive Chairman of Ukanafun Local Government Hon. Uko Idiong to plead on his behalf fell on deaf ears.
